Badge, body armor stolen in Metairie burglary | NOLA.com

An agent with the U.S. Border Patrol returned home to find his Metairie residence burglarized. The thief made off with $1,875 worth of property, including a gold badge from his dress uniform, according to a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office incident report.

The agent discovered the break-in Thursday afternoon when he arrived at his residence on North Sibley Street in Metairie, according to the report. Someone forced open the back door and rifled through things.

The badge had been taken from his uniform, but the thief also made off an agency-issued, green bullet-proof vest as well a personal laptop computer, the report said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call the Sheriff's Office investigations bureau at 504.364.5300. The public can also call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll-free at 877.903.7867. Tips can be texted to C-R-I-M-E-S (274637); text TELLCS then the crime information. Callers or texters do not have to give their names or testify and can earn a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an indictment.
